Bird Island Tour

Description: Bird Island is the last beach in North Carolina and the first beach in South Carolina and an uninhabited nature preserve that was purchased by the state of North Carolina in 2000 to protect the turtle and bird nesting areas. You will paddle from across Intracoastal Waterway from the mainland to the backside of Bird Island and Bonaparte creeks, exploring the beautiful marsh grass and oyster bed structures. Kayakers will paddle into South Carolina and beach their kayak on the beach in Little River inlet, exploring the jetty structure, pristine dune areas and take a refreshing swim. The jetties hold many shelling treasures that include sand dollars, whelks, and conchs. Paddling back from Bird Island you will be going through the meandering channels of Bonaparte Creek and tide permitting Dead Water Creek. During this tour you may see egrets, sea turtles, sea otters, dolphins, porpoise, blue herons, pelicans, ospreys, and perhaps a resident bald eagle.

Description: Tubbs Inlet is the inlet located between Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach. The inlet is always changing and because of this the shelling along the beaches in this area can be superb. You will paddle through a pristine marsh estuary making your way to Tubbs Inlet through creeks that do not experience any boat traffic. You will beach your kayak on your own private beach in the inlet and take a refreshing dip while you soak up the local beauty. The creeks and shallows behind Ocean Isle Beach are host to some of the best inshore fishing in the area. The most targeted species are Red Drum, Speckled Trout, and Flounder.

Fitness Level: Moderate to Low
Duration: 2 1/2 to 3 Hours
Schedule: This tour relies on the tide level and is limited to mid to high tide. Call for available times and dates.
Description: Launching near the site of the old Sunset Beach swing bridge, now the location of the community boat ramp and fishing pier, we will and paddle under the new Sunset Beach bridge and travel along the causeway. We will paddle behind the homes on North Shore Drive on Sunset Beach, exploring the fabulous tidal creeks teeming with wildlife. We will make our way behind Bird Island and then meander our way back to the waterway through a maze of switch back tidal channels. Passing by beautiful waterway homes on one side and perhaps spot a wild goat on Goat Island, sea turtles or dolphin. This is moderate paddle lasting approximately 2 ½ to 3 hours.
